Susurri a change of luck for Lockwood

Saturday 3 February 2018, 3:51pm

Smart filly Susurri has given trainer Barry Lockwood a welcome change of luck when she ploughed through a rain-sodden Doomben to win the three-year old handicap.

Susurri had been rated a certainty at her previous start at the same track but finished second to the promising Bat A Kat after being trapped four deep for much of the race.

However, things went her way on Saturday and Susurri ($4) was able to finish strongly to beat Johnny Whitesox ($4.40) by 1-3/4 lengths, with a short head to Dream Kisses ($14) in third.

Susurri is one of several smart young horses trained by Lockwood at Eagle Farm and she made up in part for the defeat last week of his star filly, Show Us Ya Diamonds.

Show Us Ya Diamonds was being set for next week's Inglis Three-Year-Old Sprint at Warwick Farm but pulled up sore after finishing fifth on the Sunshine Coast.

"Show Us Ya Diamonds was very sore after that run and has had to go to the paddock. At least luck went our way with Susurri today and she deserved the luck," Lockwood said.

Susurri will either back up at Doomben next week or go to the paddock to get ready for the winter carnival.

"I will see how she pulls up. But at least we now know she can handle a wet track," Lockwood said.

The track was downgraded to a heavy 10 after the race, which was run in driving rain.
