Former smart juvenile Boomwaa has struggled to recapture his early form but seems to have a new lease of life since moving to Queensland.

Now a six-year-old, Boomwaa was trained by Robbie Laing in Victoria when he won the 2013 Group Three Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington.

He was also second in the 2014 Inglis Classic and an unlucky fifth in that year's Group One Blue Diamond Stakes.

But he struggled to win after that in further stints with Laing and Henry Dwyer in Victoria.

Boomwaa won one more race at Moonee Valley before being sent to Gary Clarke in Darwin where he won an open handicap in July last year.

He has since been transferred again to Ben Currie at Toowoomba and has been in impressive form.

Boomwaa won at his third start for Currie running slick time when successful over 1200 metres at Doomben.

He will tackle open company for the first time in Brisbane in the Daniel Bullimore Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.

"All three of his runs for me have been very good. He clocked 1.9.03 when he won last start which is flying anywhere," Currie said.

"I think he is starting to get back to his original form. He was probably rated up to his best after his two-year-old year and it has been hard for him to get back down."

"He overcame difficulties to win last time because they took him on early."

Currie used apprentice Ruby Ride on Boomwaa last start but has switched to senior rider Jim Byrne on Saturday.

"Boomwaa is down in weight and Jim has been in top form so it makes sense," Currie said.

The young trainer is flying towards 100 winners for the season for the second year in a row and will have several runners at Doomben.

A treble on Sunday at Toowoomba took him to 83 winners and seventh place on the Australian trainers' premiership.
