Slight setback for She Will Reign

Friday 26 January 2018, 10:27am

Dual Group One winner She Will Reign has suffered a slight setback but her trainer Gary Portelli is confident is it not serious.

The Golden Slipper winner had been scheduled to have a race day gallop on Saturday at Rosehill but that has been cancelled because of swelling in a fetlock.

Portelli told stewards on Friday the filly was not lame but had minor inflammation in her right leg.

He said he was not sure what had happened but he expected her to resume normal work on Monday.

Portelli said the leg had been iced and she would spend the weekend walking and swimming.

The winner of the 2017 Golden Slipper, She Will Reign beat older horses to win the Group One Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley at her first start as a three-year-old.

Her first start in her next campaign is expected to be the $250,000 Inglis Sprint at Warwick Farm on February 10 when she will take on boom Melbourne speedster Nature Strip.
