Italia Bella to resume at Doomben

Monday 22 January 2018, 2:37pm

Promising three-year-old Italia Bella is set to take the first step towards the autumn carnivals when she returns at Doomben.

Italia Bella is still a maiden but was one of the finds of the winter carnival running three placings in four starts.

At her most recent run in August she was third behind well-performed three-year-olds Whypeeo and Shogun Sun at the Gold Coast.

Italia Bella ran third in the Group Two Champagne Stakes and second in the Listed Phoenix Stakes as a two-year-old during the winter.

Her best run may have been her first when she was in a lot of trouble before finishing fifth behind Saint Patrick's Day in the Listed Dalrello Stakes.

Future Group One winner Capital Gain was second and stakes winner Snitzkraft was third.

Trainer Stuart Kendrick said Italia Bella was set to resume in the set weights fillies maiden plate over 1200m on Friday.

"She does look well placed in a set weights maiden. After that we can sit down and have a good look at races in Sydney or possibly Melbourne for her," Kendrick said.

"It is no secret I have a big wrap on her but she has to win some races first."

Italia Bella won a recent Sunshine Coast trial and Kendrick is pleased with the way she has come on.

The filly has the pedigree to do well being by super sire Fastnet Rock out of Group One winning mare Pear Tart.

Italia Bella was one of 24 entries taken on Monday for the Doomben race.
