Jacquinot Bay wins at Flemington

Saturday 13 January 2018, 3:42pm

Evergreen veteran Jacquinot Bay has thrilled his connections with his 14th career win and first for 18 months.

Having his 71st start, the 10-year-old gelding powered clear over the final 200m in Saturday's Seascay Handicap (1700m) at Flemington to win by 2-3/4-lengths from The Chairman with Sayed another short neck third.

"It's a big thrill," co-trainer Tom Dabernig said.

"He's threatened to do that for ages."

Despite not winning since claiming back-to-back open handicaps at Flemington in June 2016, Jacquinot Bay has been consistent having finished in the top three in six of his past seven starts.

Saturday's race was Jacquinot Bay's 18th start of his current preparation.

"He loves stable life," Dabernig said.

Fellow Lindsay Park rainer Ben Hayes said Jacquinot Bay was well-ridden by Cory Parish in Saturday's race, being able to dictate terms in front.

"Everything went right and he won accordingly," Hayes said.
