Big bonuses on offer on Millions day

Friday 12 January 2018, 1:31pm

Big race days always produce pressure for jockeys and trainers but several have even more reason to perform at the Gold Coast.

Racing Queensland has put up a $50,000 bonus each for the leading jockey and trainer in the Queensland summer.

It has been judged on Summer Crown races with five points to a winner down to one for fifth.

The final three races are Saturday's Magic Millions Cup, Magic Millions Guineas And Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Corey Brown who rides Guineas favourite Pierata leads the jockeys on 25 points from Jim Byrne on 20 and Damian Browne on 15.

Tony Gollan has 19 points in the trainers' race to lead Toby Edmonds on 16 and Greg Hickman on 14.

Four runners in the Classic - Meryl, Secret Lady, Sunlight and Witherspoon - are also in for a big pay day no matter where they finish.

They are owned by all female syndicates and will share in a $500,000 bonus.

The horse which finishes highest will get $325,000, next will get $100,000, then $50,000 and $25,000.

Sugar Sizzle is also eligible but is the fourth emergence and unlikely to get a start.
