Lead Choreographer extended by Waller

Imported stayer Lead Choreographer will step up in distance in an attempt to complement his first win in Australia.

Sydney's leading trainer Chris Waller has broadened the five-year-old's horizons by racing him over 2400m for the first time since his Ennglish swan song for Roger Varianin June 2016.

Lead Choreographer got off the mark in his new home in September and subsequently recorded four minor placings in six runs heading into Saturday's Benchmark 82 Handicap at Randwick.

"We're trying him over 2400 metres for the first time. He's been looming up to win but just not quite going on with it," Waller said on his online stable update.

"Hopefully with the extra distance he can out-stay his rivals and be a genuine racehorse."

Lead Choreographer backs up from a fifth in a Benchmark 80 Handicap (2110m) at Warwick Farm on December 23 and will be joined by stablemates Great Glen and Richard Of Yorke in a field of eight.

Waller said Great Glen and Richard Of Yorke would also return to 2400m as the English duo seek their first wins since last April.

"Great Glen has been beaten narrowly in his last couple of runs over questionably unsuitable distances," he said.

"He's racing well from up on the speed. He's a great chance and Richard Of Yorke will also appreciate the extra distance."
