Pierata to be inspected again by vets

Thursday 11 January 2018, 3:02pm

Short-priced Magic Millions Guineas favourite is among four horses in the race who will have to pass a second veterinary inspection before being allowed to start at the Gold Coast showpiece meeting.

Queensland Racing Integrity Commission vets conducted the usual inspections of runners in the Guineas and the Magic Millions Classic on Thursday.

Chief steward Allan Reardon said the vets were not totally satisfied with Pierata after the inspection.

"I understand there is no real issue with him but they just want to see him again tomorrow (Friday)," Reardon said.

He said there were more concerning issues with Arrestar who appeared to be lame in the near hind, and Smartedge who also appeared to be lame behind.

Reardon said Lady Of Crebilly was also giving concern with an off fore leg.

"They will all be inspected again on Friday before a decision is made," Reardon said.

He said from the Classic, Quackerjack and Paquiri would also be inspected again but there were no major concerns with them at this stage.

Victorian trainer Matt Cumani has been given until noon on Friday to get Anthemoessa to Queensland for the Classic.

"He has told me the filly is on a flight tonight and will be here in the morning. But I told him she would have to be here by noon tomorrow or be scratched," Reardon said.

Anthemoessa has been waiting for a flight from Melbourne all week.
