Corey Brown clear to chase huge pay day

Sunday 31 December 2017, 12:23pm

Corey Brown has more than 50,000 reasons to be thankful Queensland stewards took two days off his suspension for causing interference at Doomben.

The decision means he can ride Pierata who is chasing a $1.7 million pay day at the Gold Coast in the Magic Millions Guineas on January 13.

He can also now continue to chase a $50,000 bonus for being the top Queensland summer carnival jockey.

Brown picked up eight points for his win on Pierata in winning the Vo Rogue Plate (1350m), and a third in the B J McLachlan Stakes on Witherspoon.

It gave him a clear lead on 26 points in the competition which ends with three races on Magic Millions day.

He later pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding near the 1100m in the Vo Rogue Plate when he allowed Pierata to shift in taking Whypeeo on to Curdled causing interference to Sparky Lad.

The usual suspension for the offence in Queensland is 13 days but Brown's guilty plea and the contribution to the interference by the racing manners of Whypeeo, earned him the two-day discount.

Brown will be out after he rides at Randwick on Monday and back on Magic Millions day.
