Singing gets boost from a late scratching

Saturday 30 December 2017, 4:10pm

Former French galloper Singing made the most of the late scratching of race favourite Night's Watch to score an all way win in the $150,000 Shoot Out Quality (2200m) at Doomben.

Night's Watch, trained in Victioria by Darren Weir, arrived in Brisbane early on Saturday morning did not arrive at Doomben in time for the races.

Chief steward Allan Reardon said he had no choice but to scratch Night's Watch after he arrived only 22 minutes before the race.

"I had scratched him well before that. Apparently there was a mix up with daylight saving and Queensland time. It has been expensive for the owners," Reardon said.

Singing, who did his early racing in Europe, was bought by Australian Bloodstock as a possible Cups horse.

While he hasn't lived up to that trainer Kris Lees has got him firing very well and it was second win on end.

Singing ($2.90) beat Ingeegoodbee ($21) by 3 1/4 lengths with 1 1/2 lengths to Emphasis ($5.50) in third place.

Lees wasn't at Doomben but winning jockey Jeff Lloyd said he had been given a very easy time in front and kicked strongly from the 600m.

Singing is not eligible for the Magic Millions trophy on January 13 but Ingeegoodbee is headed to the race.

"It was a good effort and that will top him off nicely for the Trophy," said trainer Robert Heathcote.
