Brave Song maintains winning rhythm

Brave Song has made amends at the scene of his worst performance by winning convincingly at Randwick.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt ended his first preparation with the low point of his five-race career in August, but after a successful midweek tune-up at Canterbury he ticked off his first Saturday metropolitan win in style.

Brave Song timed his run to perfection under Glyn Schofield to claim the #theraces Handicap (1200m) by half-a-length from Crafty Cop ($9.50), a dramatic improvement from his fifth over the same trip on his Randwick debut.

Flow ($6) was third, half-a-length adrift.

"We reflected on his last defeat and thought he might be a horse that needs to save up for one strong finishing burst and he was ridden accordingly," Paul Snowden said.

Although pleased the $1.55 favourite lived up to that billing, Snowden was restrained when asked if Brave Song could step up in class during autumn.

"He hasn't met anything with a bit of substance yet," he said.

"We're heading into a carnival so these things are going to have to be mapped out in the next six weeks ago but at the moment he's in form and there's races around for him so we'll keep him going."

Schofield, who replaced the injured Kerrin McEvoy, expected far more improvement from the Your Song three-year-old.

"His three wins have been quite eye-catching but he still has a lot to learn," he said.

"He didn't put them away today, but he could have. He could have been a little bit stronger."
