Bella Occho stars at Ipswich

Wednesday 27 December 2017, 4:59pm

The promising Bella Occhi has kept her unbeaten record intact at the Ipswich metropolitan meeting reduced to 48 runners because of scratchings.

The Ben Currie trained Bella Occhi ($1.35) had only three rivals but had no trouble making it three wins from three starts in the Class Two Handicap.

Bella Occhi ran 60.31 seconds for the 1020 metres, a good time for the distance on the heavy ground.

Currie bought Bella Occhi, who is by noted sire of stayers High Chaparral, at the Melbourne Premier Sale.

"After her first two wins we were joking she is the fastest High Chaparral to race," Currie said.

"But there is no reason she won't get over more ground. Her two sisters are by High Chaparral and have won at a bit of distance."

"She has won in good, soft and heavy going and we might have a serious horse and we can start looking at something a lot better for her."

Fellow trainer Toby Edmonds produced a promising first starer, Real Kaos ($5), who was last to leave the barriers but ran home well to win a maiden (1100m).

Real Kaos is a half brother to Edmonds-trained open company galloper Siegfried and has been given plenty of time to get ready to race.

"Siegfried took time to get to his best and this bloke might be the same. But I think he will get through to Saturday grade quickly," stable foreman Trent Edmonds said.

Real Kaos gave jockey Jeff Lloyd an early double after his win on Tversky ($1.65).
