Tongue tie helps Serenade win at Caulfield

Tuesday 26 December 2017, 3:35pm

The addition of a tongue tie has turned around the fortunes of Serenade The Stars at Caulfield.

Serenade The Stars recorded a strong staying win under Craig Williams to land the Joe Brown Plate (2400m) on Tuesday.

At the Caulfield meeting 10 days ago, Serenade The Stars finished a long last, more than 47 lengths from the winner, in a race over 2420m.

With the tongue tie added, Serenade The Stars ($7.50) landed his second win in Australia scoring a three-quarter length win from the $2.90 favourite My Psychiatrist with Goodwood Zodiac ($11) a head away third.

"The magic tongue tie has done the trick," trainer Peter Gelagotis said.

"The horse choked down last start.

"Why, we don't know."

Gelagotis praised Williams for looking after Serenade The Stars at Caulfield when the Irish-bred import was a beaten horse.

"He didn't knock him around and something had to come out of it," Gelagotis said.

"Credit to Racing Victoria stewards, they scoped the horse, but there was nothing there, and we put it down to plain and simple, that he got his tongue back.

"Credit to Craig Williams, he stuck with the horse and gave him a peach of a ride."

Gelagotis expects the owners of Serenade The Stars, which include OTI Racing, to have a lot of fun with the four-year-old.

"Give him 12 more months to mature and he could be a really nice country Cup horse or even a lower grade stakes horse," Gelagotis said.
