Lindsay Park pair in form for Dubai trip

Sunday 17 December 2017, 2:07pm

Two Lindsay Park sprinters are bound for Dubai for the World Cup carnival following recent jump-out wins at Flemington.

Faatinah and Shaf recorded 800m victories on Friday morning with Lindsay Park now awaiting flight details to send the pair to Dubai.

Both horses are owned by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid All Maktoum, the deputy ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Industry in the United Arab Emirates.

The pair could also be joined by three-year-old Mutamayel.

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig says Sheikh Hamdan, who has a large representation at the Dubai World Cup carnival which runs from January until World Cup night on March 31, also wants to have some of his Australian horses there.

"We're just waiting now for confirmation on a flight which will hopefully be between Christmas and New Year," Dabernig said.

"They're going over for the carnival with no specific plans.

"There's a number of sprints that might be suitable and if they do well then they could be there for a couple of months and maybe get through to the World Cup meeting.

"There's plenty of options so we'll see how they go.

"Mutamayel could run in the lead-up races to the Derby but we'll again see how he's performing."

Faatinah is the best performed of the trio, running second to stablemate Sheidel in the Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield last autumn.

Both Faatinah and Shaf have shown a liking for the Flemington straight track with each being successful while Mutamayel has raced five times, registering wins at Pakenham and Sandown at his first two starts.

Lindsay Park sent Tashbeeh to the carnival in 2015 where he had two runs, once over 1400m on the turf finishing fifth and then fourth over 1900m on the dirt track at Meydan.

Dabernig said a South African track rider employed at Lindsay Park would travel with the team having spent 17 years working in Dubai while co-trainer Ben Hayes would head over periodically.
