Kerrin McEvoy injured in pre-race mishap

Saturday 16 December 2017, 3:58pm

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy will be sidelined for some time after breaking a bone in his hand in a pre-race mishap at Randwick.

McEvoy was taking Sugar Bella, favourite for Saturday's Catanach's Benchmark 84, to the barriers when she took a sudden step sideways and the jockey said he heard the bone crack as he tried to control her.

McEvoy went to the Prince Of Wales Hospital where the break was confirmed.

"Broken bone in hand , just getting assessed as to when I get plate or screws . Could be worse" McEvoy tweeted later in the afternoon.

The Kris Lees-trained Sugar Bella was scratched from the race won by the Mark Newnham-trained Anatola.
