Ardoyne Road out of Millions contention

Wednesday 13 December 2017, 3:33pm

Trainer Tony Sears has elected to take a cautious path with highly promising filly Ardoyne Road and she will miss the Magic Millions Classic.

Ardoyne Road created a huge impression at her first start at Doomben two weeks ago when she missed the start but circled the field to lead most of the way for an easy win.

Sears had intended to send Ardoyne Road into the $2 Million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on January 13 without another run.

But in the end he has decided not to rush the daughter of sire Top Echelon.

"It took her two weeks to get over the Doomben run. It isn't the reason we have decided not to run her in the Millions. It is more the heat and the owner is very patient," Sears said.

"He would rather have a horse for the long term than ruin her by pushing her too hard."

"Some people might say it was a silly thing to say about a $2 million race. But a lot of horses have been ruined by being pushed too hard early."

Sears said an option remained for Golden Slipper in March,

"I have that big an opinion of her but again we won't be rushing her," Sears said.
