Orman chases more wins for Edmonds stable

Friday 8 December 2017, 10:27am

Jockey James Orman is hoping a midweek success for trainer Toby Edmonds can translate into a stakes winner at Doomben.

Orman rarely rides for Edmonds and Cosmic View's win at Ipswich on Wednesday was only his second winner for the Gold Coast-based trainer this season.

It was Orman's 396th career winner and he is keen to add to his tally of eight stakes victories.

Stable foreman Trent Edmonds said Orman was one of several jockeys getting a chance with the stable on Saturday with Jeff Lloyd on holidays.

"Jim is a hard worker and we are happy to give him a ride when we can," Edmonds said.

Orman has been booked for multiple stakes winning mare Col 'N' Lil in the Listed Just Now Quality (1350m).

Col 'N' Lil will be having her third start for Edmonds after originally being trained by Ben Currie at Toowoomba.

The mare was sold at the National Broodmare sale in June and her new owners, Yulong Investments, long-time Edmonds ' clients, decided to keep her in work to chase more black type.

"She wasn't bad first-up in the Keith Noud Quality at Ipswich and has been placed four times second-up," Edmonds said.

Edmonds has brought Zahspeed back from Sydney to contest the Listed Brisbane Handicap (1600m).

Zahspeed won a Doomben open handicap over 1600m two runs back and was then third over 1800m at Rosehill two weeks ago.

Edmonds hopes Zahspeed might pick up a wildcard into a Magic Millions race next month.
