First stakes winner for Ocean Park

Sunday 26 November 2017, 3:21pm

Ocean Jewel's victory in the Listed Placid Ark Stakes has given her sire Ocean Park his first stakes winner at Ascot in Perth.

The 2012 Cox Plate winner, Ocean Park stands at Waikato Stud in New Zealand.

The Simon Miller-trained three-year-old filly also gave Sydney jockey Josh Parr his first win in the west when she held off Truly Belong.

"Her pedigree is enormous and with black-type now, the world's her oyster," Miller said.

"She's worth a fortune."

After a coupe of ordinary runs, Miller sent Ocean Jewel for a change of scenery at the beach which did the trick.

An $80,000 weanling, Ocean Jewel is out of the stakes-placed mare Markisa, a daughter of Marquise from the famous Eight Carat family.
