Big futures for Gollan's double

Wednesday 22 November 2017, 2:17pm

Premier trainer Tony Gollan predicts bigger things to come for his apprentice and one of his first starters after they gave him an early double at Ipswich.

Gollan's apprentice Zoe White continued her recent good form when she steered his mare Prue's Angel ($3.50) to win a class two (1020m) on Wednesday.

"Zoe rode her first Saturday metropolitan winner at Doomben last Saturday. It was a real thrill for the whole stable," Gollan said.

"She has had a solid grounding in central Queensland and I think she will go on to ride a lot of winners in Brisbane. Her three-kilogram claim will be invaluable for me and other trainers."

"Zoe rode Prue's Angel just the way we wanted."

Gollan made it a double when his giant three-year-old Justify ($1.40) won his first start in a maiden (1100m).

Justify, who is raced by breeder Ron Gilbert, looked certain to win by lengths early in the straight but paddled to the line to win by only a neck.

The gelding had won three trials in impressive style and was expected to win easily.

"It got a bit hairy in the last 50m but he has won that is the main thing. Justify is a lot better than that. Maybe the soft track didn't suit him or he led so easily he thought his job was done," Gollan said.

"I think you will see a much better horse in the future."
