Bonaria set for interstate missions

Saturday 13 April 2013, 5:36pm

Honest mare Bonaria will chase more black-type success interstate after beating the boys in an open handicap at Flemington on Saturday.

Bonaria let down strongly in the Lort Smith Animal Hospital Handicap (1600m) to defeat import Ladari by 1-3/4 lengths, with Altonio third.

Trainer Pat Hyland will now step the Group-winning mare back up to stakes company against her own sex in the Group Two Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) in Adelaide in two weeks before a possible trip to Queensland to include a shot at the Group One Tattersall's Tiara (1400m).

"It's pretty exciting having a little mare like her that can do what she's done," Hyland said.

While interstate trips are on the cards for Bonaria, Tasmanian galloper Banca Mo scored an interstate win in Saturday's National Jockeys Trust Handicap (2000m) and will now head to the $200,000 Warrnambool Cup in top form.

The David and Scott Brunton-trained gelding looked in a potentially awkward position early in the straight just in behind the lead, but was able to get his way into the clear and finished strongly late to beat Auld Burns by a half neck.

"He's a terrific horse and very under-rated," Scott Brunton said.

"He'll go to the Warrnambool Cup, but if the rain doesn't come he could possibly head to Queensland."
