Doomben races cancelled after deluge

Saturday 13 April 2013, 11:12am

Heavy rain has caused Saturday's race meetings at Doomben and the Gold Coast to be cancelled.

Stewards rated the tracks unsafe for racing after almost 50 millimetres of rain drenched southeast Queensland since Friday afternoon.

Racing Queensland and Brisbane Racing Club officials have agreed to make a number of programming changes caused by the wet weather.

Wednesday's meeting, which was scheduled to be held at Eagle Farm, will be switched to Doomben.

The Listed Brisbane Racing Club Plate (1350m) has been transferred from Saturday to Wednesday's meeting, making it a nine-race card.

At next Saturday's Eagle Farm meeting, a 2200 metre Class Six Plate has been reprogrammed as a Benchmark 90 handicap over the same distance.

Sunday's Sunshine Coast meeting will go ahead, but the eight races will be held on the cushion track because the turf on the course proper is waterlogged.
