Encryption born to run at Guineas meeting

Thursday 12 October 2017, 1:27pm

If ever a horse was born to win a race on Caulfield Guineas day, it is Encryption.

The two-year-old has his first start in Saturday's Debutant Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield for trainer James Cummings and Godolphin.

Encryption is a son of 2001 Caulfield Guineas winner Lonhro from the 2013 Thousand Guineas winner Guelph.

Both those Group One races will be run at Caulfield on Saturday.

Besides his Caulfield Guineas win, Lonhro was successful another 10 times at Group One level.

Guelph won seven of her 14 starts and claimed the Thousand Guineas after taking out the Flight Stakes in Sydney at her previous outing.

"There's something fitting about Guelph's first foal making its debut on the day she won her fourth Group One in the Thousand Guineas," Cummings said.

"He's a lovely colt who's gone ahead since he jumped out up the straight at Flemington a couple of weeks ago.

"He's an unassuming type and there's a lot to like about him going into this race.

"But we've got our feet on the ground. He's certainly got something, but he needs to show it on race day."

Cummings said Encryption had shown the stable he was going as well stablemates Ranier and Sanglier who made their debuts at Flemington last week in the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes.

Ranier finished second to the Lindsay Park two-year-old Nomothaj, beaten in a photo, while Sanglier finished sixth.
