Michael Dee OK for Caulfield Guineas ride

Tuesday 10 October 2017, 5:17pm

Michael Dee is free to ride Holy Snow in the Caulfield Guineas after having a careless riding suspension reduced on appeal.

Dee took his appeal to the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board on Tuesday and had an eight meeting suspension reduced to six.

The jockey, who claimed his first Group One win on Foundry in the Metropolitan Handicap at Randwick last Saturday week, was suspended at Seymour on Sunday and began his penalty immediately.

Dee's suspension was due to end at midnight on Sunday, but with two meetings off he will return for Saturday's meeting at Caulfield.

James Winks also had two meetings shaved off a 12-meeting careless riding ban from the Seymour meeting.

His suspension enables him to return to riding at Kyneton next Tuesday.

Mornington trainer Clive Balfour has lodged an appeal against the severity of a six-month disqualification handed out by Racing Victoria stewards last week.

Balfour was banned for allegedly attempting to inject three horses, Rexmont, Alsimon and Terpeia, before the race meeting at Moe on September 25.

During a race day stable inspection stewards located three syringes containing 12.5mls of Mitachondral and 12.5mls of Cophos B, constituting an attempt by Balfour to inject the three horses prior to their respective races at Moe that day.

After considering written submissions from the parties, the RAD Board refused Balfour's application for a stay of proceedings.
