Attempted raceday treatment earns a ban

Thursday 5 October 2017, 6:11pm

Mornington trainer Clive Balfour has been disqualified for six months following a Racing Victoria stewards inquiry into the attempted race day treatment of three horses.

Rexmont, Alsimon and Tarpeia were all withdrawn from their respective races at Moe on September 25 following a report from the RV Compliance Assurance Team after a race day stable inspection of Balfour's stable.

Balfour pleaded guilty to three charges, one for each horse, of attempting to inject Rexmont, Alsimon and Tarpeia on race day morning.

Stewards considered Balfour's age, his extensive training career, financial position, personal circumstances and his guilty pleas in arriving at the penalty of six months on each charge.

They ordered the penalties be served concurrently with the period of disqualification to expire in April next year.

Stewards considered his actions jeopardised the integrity and perception of racing and public confidence together with the need for any penalty to send a strong message to all participants of the seriousness of the offence.

Balfour has been granted seven days to get his affairs in order, including the transfer of horses.
