The last time Saab Hasan raced Shoreham at Flemington he delivered a dream result for the trainer.

Shoreham provided Hasan, who prepares a small team at Flemington, with his first winner at his home track and the trainer believes the now three-year-old can do it again on Saturday in the Listed Galilee Series Final (2500m).

Shoreham notched that Flemington win in a two-year-old race last June before he was sent for a spell.

Hasan mentioned after the win Shoreham "could be a Derby horse", and despite the gelding missing the spring because of a virus the trainer is only a few weeks away from getting him to a Derby.

The Galilee Series Final is Shoreham's first test over 2500m with a view to running in the Group One South Australian Derby at Morphettville on May 4.

"I'm confident he'll run the 2500 metres (on Saturday) but I believe after this run he'll be at his absolute peak," Hasan said.

Shoreham was third over 1700m at Caulfield two starts ago before finishing second to Kings Palace over 2000m at Caulfield last start.

Hasan insists the gelding is capable of going one better this time.

"He likes the track, he likes a big track, and he likes the sting out of the ground," Hasan said.

Shoreham is on the third line of betting with New Zealand three-year-old Serpent favourite.

Serpent won the New Zealand St Leger over 2500m at his most recent start last month.

"It's hard to gauge the form of the New Zealander, on paper he hasn't beaten much, but the trainer must be respected," Hasan said.

The trainer is Murray Baker who has had plenty of success travelling horses to Australia and has the favourite It's A Dundeel in Saturday's Australian Derby in Sydney.
