Foundry penalised for Metropolitan success

Monday 2 October 2017, 6:50pm

Foundry has been penalised for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups following his win in The Metropolitan at Randwick.

Registering his first win on Saturday since February 2014, Foundry was handed a 1kg penalty for both races by Racing Victoria handicapper Greg Carpenter.

The Lloyd Williams-owned stayer now has 51kg in both Cups.

"Foundry defeated Big Duke (55kg) by 0.5 lengths with 4.5kg less weight," Carpenter said.

"The 1kg penalty now takes him to within 2.5kg of Big Duke in the handicap for both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups."

Jon Snow escaped a penalty for his win in the JRA Cup at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Carpenter said with 54.5kg for both Cups he was already high in the weights for a four-year-old following his ATC Australian Derby win at Randwick in April.
