Oscietra flops in Flemington straight race

Wednesday 27 September 2017, 5:32pm

The first foal of Black Caviar is heading to the spelling paddock after disappointing in a three-year-old fillies race at Flemington.

Oscietra finished a fading ninth behind Divine Messenger in Wednesday's Have You RSVP'd Handicap over the straight 1000m course.

The filly went into the race following victory in a Geelong maiden last month and was an easing $6 third favourite.

Lindsay Park senior trainer David Hayes was disappointed with the finish she produced but said she still lacked maturity.

"There doesn't appear anything has gone wrong," Hayes said.

"Her breathing was good and her action was fine but she was weak over the last 200 metres."

"I'll check her out tonight and tomorrow morning and I'm recommending a spell."

Hayes said a spell now may give the filly an opportunity to grow before an autumn campaign.

"Spring is a good time to be racing but it's also a great time for an immature horse to be out," Hayes said.

"The pastures are very strong and she'll get the benefits of that now."

Hayes also doubts the filly will again race up the straight at Flemington.

She previously finished third over the straight 1000m at Flemington on debut in January.

Black Caviar now has four foals.

Her second is named Prince Of Caviar while she has had a filly by Snitzel and last week had a filly by More Than Ready.
