Impressive Win Shows She's All Woman

Wednesday 13 September 2017, 5:01pm

The next few days will determine whether blueblooded filly Woman is given a shot at stakes company this spring or is put away until the Autumn.

Woman, the daughter of Frankel and eight time Group 1 winner More Joyous, made an impressive debut winning the TAB Rewards Handicap (1250m) at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Co-trainer Adrian Bott said if the three-year-old comes through the race in good order the Listed Reginald Allen (1400m) on Everest Day is an ideal spring target.

''There's a nice race in a couple of weeks time we can look at but we are mindful of what we want to achieve in the Autumn,'' Bott said.

''We'll be patient and see what happens.''

With owner John Singleton trackside to watch Woman make her debut, jockey Kerrin McEvoy parked the filly in the one-one before easing out nearing the turn and she lengthened nicely to post a two length win.

Bott said the most impressive part of her race was the closing stages and was a little relieved to have the long awaited debut over with.

''It was great to see her do that for the team and Singo, it's been a long range plan with the mating and getting her into the stable,'' he said.

''She was the ultimate professional and I think we saw she has so much scope.

''It probably took her a while to build into it, certainly she will get over a lot further in time.''

More Joyous won eight Group 1s under the care of Gai Waterhouse including a Doncaster and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and she also kicked off her career with a dominant win.

McEvoy said the sky's the limit for Woman, who gave him the feel of a very classy filly.

''There's still improvement to come, she has a big frame and she still has to grow into it. She's not the full finished article yet, that's what is exciting,'' McEvoy said.
