Ravi goes one better in Group 3 Sheraco

Saturday 9 September 2017, 4:11pm

A year after running a close second in the Sheraco Stakes, Ravi has earned an emphatic Group Three win in the same race at Rosehill.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, the five-year-old gained a stakes win during the summer in Brisbane when she took out the Listed Just Now Handicap.

Peter Snowden admitted he thought Saturday's Sheraco (1200m) might have been ambitious first-up but with a top ride by Kerrin McEvoy she found herself in the perfect position.

Ravi ($7.50) beat Canberra mare Perizada ($17) by two lengths with Daysee Doom ($7) another nose third.

"It was a gun ride by Kerrin," Snowden said.

"We wanted to be a bit positive early.

"She looked like she was going to get caught three deep but Kerrin persevered and got into a great spot.

"She travelled really well and there was a lot to like about her last 200 metres.

"I thought we might have been a bit ambitious first-up.

"I thought she had the ability to win a race like this but her form last time in was tapering off, mainly because she was just getting too far back in her races and she cost herself a few times.

"We committed to changing that around this time in and it seems to have worked."

Snowden said there were plenty of stakes options for mares in the coming weeks.

McEvoy said the Ravi had cost herself in previous races.

"She'd just been fluffing the start, getting out the back and having bad luck," he said.

"Peter and Paul just decided to get her out of the barriers better and get her into a better spot. She's racing much more tractably now.

"Beginning well and getting a good spot is paramount."
