Winter stand-out entry in Matron Stakes

Thursday 7 September 2017, 6:46am

Dual Guineas winner Winter is expected to run against her own sex in the Matron Stakes rather than take on the males in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.

She was the star name among 14 fillies and mares to stand their ground at the latest declaration stage for the Group One Matron Stakes (1600m) on Saturday.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained Winter has won the English and Irish versions of the 1000 Guineas, the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood this season.

O'Brien also has Hydrangea, Rain Goddess, Rhododendron and Roly Poly in the Matron Stakes.
