Mare wins the day for Linda Huddy

Saturday 26 August 2017, 12:40pm

Leading Queensland owner Linda Huddy's liking for broodmare Orange Marmalade has continued to reap benefits at the Gold Coast.

Huddy owns Of The Day who made it three wins from her past four starts when she easily won Saturday's Fillies and Mares Benchmark 80 Handicap (1200m).

Of The Day is by I am Invincible out of Orange Marmalade making a her a full sister to stakes winning Brisbane sprinter Most Important who is also raced by Huddy.

She paid $210,000 for Of the Day at the 2015 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and the mare is rapidly repaying the cost.

Winning trainer Tony Gollan believes Of The Day can develop into a summer fillies and mares feature race contender.

"She might even make it to the Magic Millions fillies and mares race which is worth $1 million," Gollan said.

"Linda doesn't own Orange Marmalade but she has bought a lot of her offspring.

"Provided Of The Day can overcome her slowness at the start I think she can go a long way."

Jockey Robbie Fradd said Of The Day had a lot of potential and had improved each time he had ridden her.
