New Stakes-Winner for Holy Roman Emperor

Thursday 24 August 2017, 9:41am

Aquis Farm shuttler Holy Roman Emperor (IRE) looked in great shape at their Queensland stallion parade two weeks ago and was in the frame overnight with a new stakes-winner in Ireland.

Consistent seven year-old gelding Canary Row claimed his first Black Type success when taking out the Listed Ruby Stakes at Killarney by a length, his fifth win from 45 starts with 13 minor placings.

Prepared by Patrick Prendergast, he appreciated the soft track to race up on the pace and kick on to win well.

"I knew Canary Row was going to run a big race even though on the ratings he had a lot to do. He just finds a leg when the ground is soft and that is his real trip. Ronan (Whelan) gave him a cracking ride. He's a home bred too, they still have the dam and siblings. He's in the Cambridgeshire at the weekend and I have thought about it, but I'm very fond of him at the moment and I think I might give him a day off," said Prendergast.

A versatile sprinter miler, Canary Row is the 68th stakes-winner Holy Roman Emperor, who stands this spring at a fee of $9,900.

He is the best of four winners from Sadler's Wells mare Fresh Mint from the family of Group I winner Preseli.
