City Of Song chases Valley win before sale

Friday 5 April 2013, 2:33pm

City Of Song is slated to have her final start for John Moloney at Moonee Valley on Saturday, but the trainer is hoping another win might change the owner's mind.

City Of Song is entered for the Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale in Sydney later this month.

"I'm hoping she does well (on Saturday) and the owner might change his mind," Moloney said.

"It will be her last run for me at this point in time."

City Of Song scored a strong second-up win at Moonee Valley two weeks ago on the undercard to champion mare Black Caviar's 24th straight success in the William Reid Stakes.

Moloney had been expecting a bold showing from City Of Song last start after a luckless first-up run at the same track.

And he is confident the four-year-old has held her form going into Saturday's Silver Thomas Hanley Handicap (1200m).

"She hasn't gone backwards," Moloney said.

"So it would be nice to get a repeat of her last performance, although there are a couple of things different with a different barrier and a change in rider."

City Of Song is favourite to notch the fifth win of her career and will be ridden by apprentice Katelyn Mallyon who replaces Sydney hoop Brenton Avdulla who made the trip south to partner the mare for his former boss last start.

"I believe she's a better horse in the autumn than the spring," Moloney said.

"I'm expecting another good run from her but it's always a little tricky with her as she needs luck and needs to get the right run being a backmarker."
