Wells chases a third National at Ballarat

Tuesday 15 August 2017, 6:19pm

The Grand National Steeplechase headlines the all-jumps program at Ballarat.

Six races have been programmed for Sunday's meeting with a strong array of nominations spread across all races.

Wells, aiming for a third win in the Grand National Steeplechase (4500m), is the headline horse of the 14 nominations, which have been extended until 10am on Wednesday.

The Kathryn Durden-trained jumper won the National at his steeplechasing debut in 2014 and again last year carrying 69kg.

He will be attempting to follow the deeds of Bashboy who won the National in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

Also among nominations is Dormello Mo, who raced exclusively over jumps in the United Kingdom before being bought by Australian clients.

Dormello Mo has won his past four starts and ironically won a flat maiden at his most recent outing, his first start on the flat in a career spanning 35 starts.

The other main race is the J J Houlahan Hurdle which has attracted 13 nominations.
