Taylor Marshall lands a win at Flemington

Saturday 5 August 2017, 5:10pm

Apprentice Taylor Marshall has landed a longshot winner at Flemington at his first day of riding at the famous racecourse.

The 24-year-old with a 2kg claim guided the $151 rank outsider Nozomi home along the fence to take out Saturday's The Rails Handicap.

He punched the former Victoria Derby placegetter out a long-head winner over Divine Mr Artie ($14) with Sin To Win ($5) a half-head away third.

Marshall, a son of 1999 Melbourne Cup-winning jockey John Marshall, was apprenticed to Michael Freedman at Randwick being transferring south to Danny O'Brien at Flemington last month.

He said the move was on a three-month loan period which he hopes to make permanent.

Marshall had his first Melbourne ride at Caulfield last week.

"It's great to get a Saturday city winner," Marshall said.

"It's been a great week for me. I was able to get an early winner at Warrnambool on Tuesday and another one today.

"It's been a busy week but a great start."

Marshall said he was thankful for the advice and support of his father.

"He's ridden a thousand times here at Flemington so it was great to get his advice on my first day here," he said.
