Friday 28 July 2017, 4:20pm

A Victorian tribunal set up to deal with training fees disputes between racehorse trainers and owners will be headed up by the former Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board chairman, Judge Russell Lewis.

Racing Victoria announced Lewis has been appointed to chair the Training Disputes Tribunal which has been incorporated into Racing Victoria's rules of racing from August 1 in conjunction with the Trainer and Owner Reforms which Racing Australia has introduced nationally.

The national reforms, which include new Standard Training Agreements between trainers and owners, have been set up to provide greater certainty and clarity between trainers and owners, as well as between multiple owners of a horses.

The Training Disputes Tribunal will hear cases where a training fees dispute arises between an owner and trainer.

"Judge Lewis comes to the role with a remarkable legal career having served five decades as a barrister, 14 years as Judge of the County Court of Victoria and 12 years as chairman of the RAD Board," RV chief executive Giles Thompson said.
