Ben Currie still in Qld premiership lead

Sunday 23 July 2017, 2:25pm

Trainer Ben Currie has bounced back from the disappointment of losing a race because of a positive swab to post a treble at Toowoomba and increase his lead in the Queensland premiership.

The Currie-trained Smooch was disqualified and Currie fined $3000 after returned a positive test to a marker of the prohibited 4-Hydroxy Xylazine after her win at the Sunshine Coast on March 19.

Currie's treble at his home track on Saturday night with Captain Leo, Mustarrid, and Johnhro took him to 102-1/2 Queensland winners, 3-1/2 ahead of Tony Gollan who has the metropolitan title in his keeping.

It was the last meeting at Toowoomba for the season and Currie easily won the local premiership with Beau Appo the leading jockey.
