Eurell looking forward to juvenile's debut

Thursday 13 July 2017, 1:20pm

There will be an added element of satisfaction for Greg Eurell if two-year-old I Did It Again can make a winning debut at Caulfield.

Not only does Eurell train the gelding, he also bred him.

"It's nice to see it right from the beginning, all the way through," Eurell said.

"You rear them and we've had him right from scratch. So it would be very rewarding if he could come out and get the job done on Saturday, that's for sure."

I Did It Again is by Nicconi out of Not That Innocent.

The gelding, who is raced by Eurell's wife Danielle, has had early support for Saturday's John & Denise Cobcroft Handicap (1200m).

I Did It Again opened at $9 with the TAB on Wednesday and firmed a day later to $4.40 second favourite behind Godolphin's Bandipur.

"He's always shown us ability," Eurell said.

"He's not a zippy, flying two-year-old by any means but he's going to make a lovely three-year-old and four-year-old.

"But he shows natural ability and has got a great temperament.

"He's a lovely horse to work with and he's a very progressive horse in his learning.

"Everything about him, he ticks all the boxes."

I Did It Again ran second in a Pakenham trial last month and Eurell is looking forward to taking him to the races.

"We've got a nice barrier and I'm sure he's a horse that will be able to make his own luck," he said.

"We've worked him against better horses at home and he's been able to hold his own. So everything we've asked him to do he's been able to do.

"Race day is always a big call and a bit different but I'm very happy leading into this."

Saturday's performance will determine immediate plans for I Did It Again.

"If he happened to run us a really good race, ideally I'd just like to give him a quick freshen-up and look forward to the spring if he looks like he's going to cut it," Eurell said.
