English to run for the TAB in Everest

Wednesday 5 July 2017, 8:39am

Group One-winning mare English will run for the TAB in the $10 million Everest.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained English won last year's All Aged Stakes and has been placed in the past two runnings of the TJ Smith Stakes behind Everest favourite Chautauqua.

She has been selected by slot-holder TAB as the wagering company's representative in the race at Randwick on October 14.

"With some of the world's best sprinters on show, we are thrilled to be part of such a great concept as The Everest," Tabcorp's Craig Nugent said.

"With English in our corner we think we have a great chance of being part of history and winning the inaugural race.

"We have been working closely with English's connections and will unveil some exciting initiatives for our customers in the build-up to The Everest."

"Importantly for TAB, there is natural alignment with English's owners given the team at Newhaven Park Stud is also actively involved in running some of Sydney's biggest PubTABs."

Waterhouse said she was looking forward to being part of The Everest with TAB.

"I believe TAB have shown shrewd judgement in selecting English as their representative," Waterhouse said.

"English is the champion two-year-old and three-year-old filly of her generation, a proven Group One winner at weight-for-age level and, importantly, she has performed exceptionally well over the 1200 metres at Randwick."

As part of the TAB's promotion, there will be a competition with the 10 winners to be involved in the TAB/ English team, including a share of prize money.

The TAB's market has Chautauqua at $4.60 ahead of Irish colt Caravaggio at $6 and Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign at $8.
