Rich Brisbane winter target awaits Arinosa

Saturday 30 March 2013, 6:16pm

A second stakes win in her past two starts has Arinosa on a Group One mission in Brisbane.

The Chris Waller-trained five-year-old took out Saturday's Group Three Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill two weeks after claiming her first black-type win in the Wenona Girl Quality.

As she did last time, Arinosa ($6) set herself the task of coming from a long way back but the end result was a 1-3/4 length win over Shamal Wind ($7) with Miss Stellabelle ($7) another long neck third.

"She's going great," Waller said.

"She does it the hard way and still wins.

"We'll look at the Tatt's Tiara in Brisbane. I think that's the right race for her against her own sex."

Before she went for a spring break, Arinosa won the race for grey horses at the Melbourne Cup carnival but has proved to Waller she is worthy of much more.

"She has her confidence up," he said.

"That is the key with mares. Once they win a race they get confident and think they can keep winning."

Waller said he would avoid the Group Two Emancipation Stakes on the last of the Sydney carnival in favour of getting Arinosa ready for Brisbane.

"That race comes a bit late and cuts into the Brisbane carnival," he said.

"I'll take her up there and put her in one of the lead-up races like I did with Red Tracer last year."

Red Tracer won the Group Two Dane Ripper (1400m) before running fourth in the Group One Tatt's Tiara won by Pear Tart.
