Charnley River to race in United States

Sunday 2 July 2017, 10:40am

Group One-placed Charnley River has bled for a second time and has been sent to be trained in the United States.

Under Australian racing rules, horse that bleed twice are banned.

Charnley River leaves Australia a maiden despite running second to Sacred Elixir in the Group One J J Atkins Stakes last year.

His record is eight starts for four seconds and a third for $170,000 prize money.

A full brother to Group One winner Woorim, Charnley River's most recent start was a third in a Sunshine Coast maiden on May 14.

Trainer Stuart Kendrick said he was sad to see Charnley River go but it was exciting he could race on.

"His owner Ross Cutts had him gelded and then arranged for him to go to New York to be trained," Kendrick said.

"Bleeders can race in the USA because they can be treated. I am sure he can perform well. We never really saw the best of him here.

"But he does have a second to a very smart horse in a Group One race to his credit."

Kendrick can take consolation from the fact he moved into the top 20 trainers in Australia with a winner at Ipswich on Friday and Spur Le Jouer's victory in the $100,000 Winter Provincial Sprinters final on Saturday.

It was Spur Le Jouer's seventh win at Caloundra and took his prize money past $200,000.

"We have had 84 winners for the season and that is credit to my owners and staff," Kendrick said.
