Hyeronimus makes most of call-up

Saturday 1 July 2017, 4:49pm

Sydney-based jockey Adam Hyeronimus has made the most of a late call-up to ride Monsieur Gustave to victory in the Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) on the Sunshine Coast.

Monsieur Gustave gave trainer Darryl Hansen a feature double on Saturday after he won with Bring It Home Pop in the Bruce McLachlan Memorial.

It was also Hyeronimus's first ride and first winner at the Sunshine Coast track.

Monsieur Gustave ($6) led all the way to beat Snippets Land ($19) by half a length, with Man Of His Word ($12) a half-neck back in third.

Hyeronimus is the son of jockey Craig Hyeronimus, who won four Sunshine Coast premierships in the 1980-90s.

"I spent much of my childhood here and it's a homecoming of sorts," he said.

Hyeronimus was originally at the meeting to ride My True Love in the Sunshine Coast Guineas.

But Hansen snapped him up after Tiffani Brooker, who won the Eye Liner Stakes on Monsieur Gustave two weeks ago, was needed for another ride in the race.

"I had Josh Para and Adam in mind but thought Josh might struggle to make the 55kg so we went with Adam," Hansen said.

"When he was able to lead easily I knew he would be hard to beat."

Monsieur Gustave is likely to go for a spell and miss the Ramornie Handicap at Grafton next week.

"At this stage I am inclined to spell him. We aimed him at the Eye Liner and the Glasshouse and he has won both," Hansen said.
