Stockdales team up for another city win

Saturday 1 July 2017, 2:56pm

Talented filly Unique Lovely has continued a recent winning run for trainer Frankie Stockdale and his apprentice son Brandon.

Unique Lovely gave Frankie Stockdale his first city winner as a trainer at Moonee Valley last month and the filly backed it up with a narrow win in Saturday's 1100m Handicap at Caulfield.

In between those city wins for Unique Lovely, the Stockdales combined for another metropolitan winner at Sandown on Wednesday with Eminent Son.

In total, Brandon's last five rides on horses trained by his father have all won with Unique Lovely stringing three-straight wins while Eminent Son has won two from two this campaign.

"We're having a good run at the moment," Brandon Stockdale said.

"I think his last nine runners have all been in the first three. He's only got three that are up racing at the moment and has got a stable full of about sixteen horses."

Brandon Stockdale described Unique Lovely ($9) as "a bloody ripper" after the filly got home by a nose in Saturday's race over the fast-finishing Princess Of Queens ($13), with another short head to Clipper ($3.80 fav) in third.

"Mum owns her, Dad trains her and I'm riding her," the apprentice said.

"She's a beautiful filly.

"It's her third win in a row and she's on the way up. I had to use her up a bit from the barrier to get across into a spot and she travelled well and gave a good kick."

Frankie Stockdale said it has not surprised him to see Unique Lovely make her mark in town in recent starts.

"She's always shown she's pretty good," the trainer said.

"It's not surprising but it's good to get it done.

"The horses that are going well have always shown ability. They're happy and things have just clicked."
