Lloyd cruises to notch 128th metro winner

Smart mare Cruising Speed could be headed back to Victoria for the spring carnival after scoring an all-the-way win at Doomben.

Jockey Jeff Lloyd brought up his 128th metropolitan winner of the season on Saturday when Cruising Speed ($4.40) led all the way to beat the fast-finishing Notonyourlife ($8.50) by a short half-head in the Class 6 Plate (1350m).

Cruising Speed is raced by one of Grant Morgan's Ontrack Thoroughbred syndicates and brought up her fifth win from 14 starts.

Morgan, who is in Britain for the Royal Ascot, will speak to with trainer John Meagher on Sunday about the mare's future.

Meagher is keen to run Cruising Speed at 1600m in the near future.

"She is by the sire Savabeel out of an O'Reilly mare so she should get at least 1600m," Meagher said.

"On the home turn I thought she would win by two lengths but I was happy she just held on."

He said a serious option would be to head back to Victoria with Cruising Speed.

"She is a lightly raced mare and on her breeding she will keep getting better. But I will have to speak with the connections," Meagher said.

Cruising Speed had three starts in Victoria this year for minor placings at Flemington and Ballarat.
