First winner for trainer Clare Cunningham

Monday 19 June 2017, 5:41pm

Fledgling trainer Clare Cunningham has notched her first winner with Sir Barb taking out a 1400m-race at Goulburn.

Sir Barb's win on Monday came at his second start for Cunningham and was just the third time she had saddled a runner in her own name after several years working for former trainer Peter Moody.

"It's a thrill and I owe a lot of thanks to the people who have supported me along the way," Cunningham said.

Sir Barb, who was ridden by Cunningham's partner Jason Collett, missed the start as he has done before and settled last in the eight-horse field.

But under strong urging from Collett, he pulled himself together and powered home to beat Kitteau by 1-1/4 lengths.

Cunningham has five horses in her care at Warwick Farm and is hoping to expand.
