Tshahitsi to run for Miller at Flemington

Sunday 18 June 2017, 3:41pm

The Melbourne campaign of Tasmanian-trained Tshahitsi is set to continue, and so is that of his trainer Imogen Miller.

Tshahitsi runs over 1400m at Flemington on Saturday, a trip he was successful over in the Echuca Cup last month and at Flemington on June 10.

Miller, who trains in partnership with Chris Crook, feared she would either have to transfer Tshahitsi to another trainer to continue his preparation or take him home for a break.

But Racing Victoria has granted Miller a month's extension to her visiting trainers' licence which is now due to expire on July 11.

If Tshahitsi is successful at Flemington on Saturday, Miller is likely to set him for the Listed Winter Championship Series Final (1600m) at Flemington on July 8.

"The stewards have granted me an extension of another month which was very nice of them," Miller said.

"He'll have another run at Flemington on Saturday and then all going well he'll go to the final of the Winter Series.

"You would think that would pull him up so we'll return home, but then my licence will have expired anyway."

Miller has had Tshahitsi stabled with Glenn Thornton at Geelong since April.

With 15 horses in work at Campania, not far from Hobart, Miller has been travelling between home and Geelong preparing Tshahitsi for his Melbourne assaults.

She said Glenn and his team had done a great job with the gelding in her absence and said he had had a good week since his last victory.

"He's been to the beach this week and loving life," she said.

Miller hasn't thought any further than Tshahitsi's next two outings, although there have been people planting spring carnival seeds in her head.

But she's not getting carried away yet.

"I don't know how he'd measure up in the spring," she said.

"I'm not saying he wouldn't by any stretch but we just have to wait and see how he goes in his next couple of runs and make a plan from there."
