Mamzelle Tess to build on country wins

Thursday 15 June 2017, 4:13pm

Co-trainer Troy Corstens has a couple of questions in the back of his mind as Mamzelle Tess attempts to extend her winning sequence to four at Moonee Valley.

After wins at Bendigo, Geelong and Sale, Mamzelle Tess runs in the Kane Constructions Handicap (1600m) on Saturday.

"The question mark is the jump in grade and the jump in distance," Corstens said.

Mamzelle Tess will be having her first start at 1600m on Saturday, a month after her most recent win.

She was down to run at Moonee Valley on June 3 but Corstens and his father Leon elected to wait another day.

Mamzelle Tess also missed running at Sandown on June 7 with the training partners setting their sights on Saturday's race.

"She drew wide here last time so we elected not to run and at Sandown we weren't exactly happy with the field," Corstens said.

"She had a really good gallop on Tuesday morning with Mr Individual.

"It's the hardest field she's seen so it'll be interesting to see how she goes but she tries hard which is a good attribute to have in a racehorse."

Mr Individual runs in the Travis Harrison Cup (1600m) coming off a last-start fourth at the track on June 3.

Corstens said the performance was a better showing than his effort at Flemington on May 20.

"He's come on since that and I expect a really good run from him," Corstens said.

Del Prado lines up for his second start from a long break in the GJK Facility Services Handicap (1200m) with Corstens believing he he will need the outing.

"I thought he was sound first-up but he'll need this and then he'll be ready to strike," Corstens said.

Stablemate Gramercy makes her debut in the Friends Of Epworth Handicap (1200m).

"She's got a touch of class on her side," Corstens said.

"She's up and about and ready to go to the races."
