Jordan Childs on verge of outriding claim

Friday 9 June 2017, 2:38pm

Having been stranded on the verge of outriding his claim for the past three weeks, apprentice Jordan Childs can achieve the milestone at Flemington.

Childs is just one city win shy of achieving the feat and has five rides at Saturday's Flemington meeting including four for Victoria's premier trainer Darren Weir.

The 21-year-old moved to 79 career metropolitan winners with his victory in the Listed Straight Six at Flemington on Tashbeeh on May 20 but has not been able to get the one win he needs to outride his claim.

Childs, son of former top jockey Greg Childs, is booked for the Matthew Williams-trained Alma's Rossa in the second race on Saturday and will partner the Weir-trained Master Zephyr, Kiwia, Loresho, and Nikitas in their respective events.

Lightly raced three-year-old Kiwia is the $5 favourite in the Henry Bolte Handicap (2000m) while last-start Sandown runner-up Nikitas is on the second line of betting at $6.50 in the Comic Court Handicap (1400m).

Childs' apprenticeship is due to run until the end of this season.

The Lindsay Park team of co-trainers David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig is also within one win of a milestone.

Lindsay Park is on 99 Victorian metropolitan winners for the season and will be represented in eight of the nine races.

The stable sits second on the Melbourne premiership behind Weir (118).
