Schofield and Browne get Singapore call-up

Tuesday 30 May 2017, 4:47pm

Leading jockeys Glyn Schofield and Damian Browne will both make a hit-and-run visit for a Group One race in Singapore.

The pair will ride at the Queen Elizabeth II Cup meeting at Kranji on Sunday.

Schofield has been booked to ride Newlands for ex-pat New Zealand trainer Stephen Gray while Browne will partner the Cliff Brown-trained Laughing Gravy in the Group One Queen Elizabeth II Cup.

Newlands was a last-start winner over the 1800m of Sunday's race.

Schofield got the call-up after Opie Bosson, who had been booked for the ride, incurred a suspension at Eagle Farm last Saturday.

Schofield is no stranger to success in Singapore, guiding Gitano Hernando to win the 2011 Singapore Airlines International Cup.

Laughing Gravy's trainer and jockey have previously combined for big-race success with Cheviot in the 1996 South Australian Derby.

Brown has previously called on Browne in Singapore for an unplaced effort in the 2014 Singapore Derby on Flight Ofthe Saker.

Browne tasted international success aboard Buffering in the 2016 Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai.
