Ben Currie to continue winning streak

Thursday 25 May 2017, 2:45pm

Trainer Ben Currie has brought classy mare Col 'N' Lil back in distance as he hopes to continue his golden winter run at Eagle Farm.

Currie was disappointed when Col 'N'Lil, who dead heated to win the Weetwood Handicap in April, ran last at her most recent run in the Group Two Hollindale Stakes (1800m).

He decided to reassess Col 'N'Lil's winter plans with the mare now headed to the Ipswich Cup on June 17.

"We just thought we would come back a notch with her," Currie said.

She takes on weight-for-age class in Saturday's Group Three Lord Mayor's Cup (1600m) at Eagle Farm where she will be ridden by top jockey Jeff Lloyd.

Currie sent out five winners at Toowoomba on Saturday night to join an elite group comprising Bruce McLachlan, Alan Bailey, Gillian Heinrich and Toby Edmonds, to train five winners at a Queensland TAB meeting.

Currie also had a winner at Doomben to give him six winners for the day.

He is now second on the Queensland trainers' premiership with 79.5 winners and has 82 winners overall.

"It has been a good season and a credit to my staff. Let's just hope it keeps going," Currie said.

The Peter and Will Hulbert training partnership scratched Saga Miss from a race at Ipswich on Wednesday to run in the Lord Mayor's Cup.

Saga Miss has a good Eagle Farm record but the Hulberts are hoping for a drying track.

Trainer Desleigh Forster also scratched dual Group One-placed I'm Belucci from Ipswich to run in the Lord Mayors Cup.
